2017 was a horrible year for the Virgin Islands. Two hurricanes, Irma and Maria made landfall chewing up residential and commercial buildings. The US Govt decided to implement a project that year called Operation Blue Roof September 2017 to help.
In 2018 this program was expanded to include permanent buildings. Called The Emergency Home Repair of the Virgin Islands (EHRVI) Program it was an expansion of Operation Blue Roof. Phase 1 of the Program was initially approved to perform minor emergency repairs in single- family, owner-occupied homes. In Phase 2 of the EHRVI Program, permanent code compliant roof repairs have been completed on over 1,000 homes. In just under eight months, the EHRVI Program would have completed permanent code compliant roof repairs on over 1800 homes (Source).
By 2020 the work expanded across the island. The Virgin Islands Finance Authority disbursed 31 Million to FEMA contractors for Sheltering & Temporary Essential Power (STEP) program, known locally as the Emergency Home Repairs Virgin Islands (EHRVI) program.
WPR was involved in this Disaster Recovery effort. We helped several homes recover building new roofs for those in need.
